One day on Brač island
But the island of Brač is only 50 minutes away from Split by ferry and there are crossings all day long. You can go to Bol in the day and visit the most famous beach in Croatia that is considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: Zlatni Rat.
In the summer there are crossings almost every hour between 5 am and midnight.
When you buy your ticket at the Croatian ferry company Jadrolinija you will receive a ticket for the day, so you can take the ferry you want that day.
The price to go to Supetar is 33 kn (about 4,5 €) per person per crossing and 160 kn (about 21 €) for the car.
If you do not have any vehicle, you will have the possibility to go to Bol by bus. Once in Supetar go to the main bus station that is situated 200 m from the place where you will get off the ferry.
The price of the bus ride is 40 kn (about 5,5 €) per person and you will arrive in the village of Bol situated on the other side of the island, in about 1h15.
If you are in a hurry then you should know that you can go to Bol by cab. They are actually vans for up to 9 persons. The price is about 50 kn (about 7 €), that’s only 10 kn more than the bus, and it will take you to Bol in just 30 mn.
They are situated in front of the ferry and at the bus station, don’t worry if you don’t see them, they should come to you and ask you if you need a ride.
There are 35 km between Supetar and Bol. The road network is very good on the island, but the roads are quite winding so if you go by yourself expect to drive an average of 50 km/h.
Bol is a very typical Dalmatian village, a village like the ones you see on postcards. Have a walk on its small harbor, in its small streets made of stone, and like any good Dalmatian relax on the terrace of a cafe while watching the coming and going of tourists.
There are many restaurants in the village all around the harbour. Most of them offer typical dishes for quite correct prices, you should pay about 8-10 euros for a main course.
The beach Zlatni Rat (it means ‘Golden Horn’), is a pebble beach which shape changes according to the winds and currents.
You have for sure seen this beach many times in catalogs or advertising about Croatia since it has become a symbol of tourism.
Each year it is chosen as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. But do not expect to find sand here, it is covered with small pebbles.
From the center of Bol you can reach the beach by small train or by boat. You can of course also go by walk, in this case it should takes you 30 mn to walk 2 km from the center of Bol to the beach.
Walk along the sea and you will arrive at a shady promenade where you will find a great choice of souvenirs.
You will be able to buy different objects made from the white stone of Brač. It is one of the most famous stone in the world, it was used for the construction of a part of the White House in Washington.
Once at the beach you will have the possibility to rent deck chairs and beach umbrellas.
If you like sports, you should know that the beach Zlatni Rat is one of the most famous places of Croatia for the practice of water sports like windsurfing or kitesurfing, thanks to the winds that blow through the canal between the islands of Hvar and Brač.
You can practice other sports such as towed buoy (about 11 euros per person) or try the banana boat (about 7 euros per person).
If you have come to Bol by taxi the best is to ask the taxi driver to pick you up at a certain time in Bol.
The best is that he leaves you in Bol in the morning and pick you up at the beach in the afternoon.
Be back at Supetar one hour before the departure of the ferry so you will have some time to visit the village.
